Camoes Garden and Grotto
The Camoes Garden has been created in the memory of Louis de Camoes, who was a famous Portuguese poet in the region who lived 400 years back. There is also a garden residence that is a combination of the Western and Chinese architectural styles and this is a famous meeting place for the citizens.
Monte Fort
The Monte Fort can be viewed from the main square and is one of the best preserved forts in Macau. Near this fort is the “Ruins of St. Paul’s” which is regarded as a local landmark. As one progresses along St. Paul’s Street, it is possible to reach the front part of St. Paul’s Church which has impressive relief’s that depict the stories of the Bible. Behind the Ruins is an underground tomb where the remains of Catholic martyrs are preserved. To the right of the Ruins is the Museum of Macau where several items that describe the history of the city are displayed.
Largo do Senado
Largo do Senado is a beautiful square that has a central fountain and wave-patterned pavement. This square is surrounded by simple yet impressive Portuguese and baroque style structures where one can find many shops and restaurants. Various narrow alleyways begin from this square that lead to jewelry shops, snack stalls, pharmacies and curio markets.
