Turpan, situated in eastern region of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was known by the name ‘Gaochang’ previously; i.e. between 328 and 1275 AD. Turpan is a significant place on Silk Road. It lies in Turpan Basin; and happens to be at the lowest elevation all over China. Off late, it has turned out to be a tourist hot-spot with unique landscape, loads of historical relics, fertile farmland, and many other features.
As Turpan can produce high-quality grapes; that too, of several types, it’s called ‘Hometown of Grapes’. It would not be wrong to say that tourists flock to Turpan owing to grapes. On the north-eastern side of Turpan lies Grape Valley; which happens to be a gorgeous heaven as well as an extremely welcome place with regards to visitors. The name of this valley is ‘Grape Kingdon’. It’s worthy of it. Visitors are allowed to have tasted these grapes at a nominal fee. They can also go for a ‘leisurely walk’ over here.
