The people of this city are very humble and can be found engrossed in all type of activities, big and small. That is because employment is on the rise in this part. The marketplaces are good and there are many shops, galleries, hotels and eateries which conduct a good business in spite of the surrounding conditions. Visiting places include the old part of Baucau where the relics of the yesteryears are still found. The area has monuments like the Portuguese colonial area.
