Tourist Guide Manatuto

Manatuto is a city found on the northern coast of East Timor, located in the east of Dili, the national capital of East Timor. It is one of the important sub districts of the Manatuto District. Manatuto is home to five ‘Suku’s’, meaning villages. As it is a merger of just five villages the area is not much and same is the case with the population. The inhabitants count up to 12,000 and are less as this city is the capital of the Manatuto district. The city is in close proximity to the sea so the salt production here has taken a huge leap. The climate here is warm and humid. The climate here is highly favorable for the growth of tamarind trees, which are present in abundance. It is also known to be the birth-place of Mr. Gusmao, the former prime minister and president of the area. The city was badly damaged in the 1999 riots and suffered the maximum damage because it was the hometown of the great leader. The city is undergoing large infrastructural changes even today.
