Tourist Guide Kakinada
Kakinada is a beautiful city and also a municipal corporation in East of Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. It is also the headquarters of East Godavari district.
The population of the city was 704,920 as of the 2001 census. This coastal city even experienced some instant growth due to the granted Special Economic Zone status.
There is a deep water port which is increasing its growth. Before the construction of the deep water port, there was an old anchorage port which was operated for many decades as the largest minor port in India. Presently, both the deep water port along with the older anchorage port operates side by side.
The city has a nearby small island, named Hope Island which is around five kilometers away. This makes the city a natural harbor too. The city grew its importance in the last 300 years after the European settlers arrived here and the British made it an administrative headquarters for the local area they ruled.
