Tourist Guide Ongole
Ongole is known for ‘Ongole’ breed of bullocks which have been considered superior in terms of quality. They are amongst the main ‘Zebu’ cattle breeds all over the world.
The history of Ongole can be traced back to reign of Satavahanas and Mauryas who had ruled majority of Andhra Pradesh of present day. Certain inscriptions which date to Satavahana period are said to be found in a hamlet adjoining Ongole. It is called ‘Chinna Ganjam’. This, of course, was the thing a few years back. After rule of Satavahanas, Ongole came in to limelight once again at the time of Kakatiya dynasty. It was the time when Voda Revu and Motupalli were serving as main seaports.
Ongole is an Indian city. Hence, it’s is subject to 3 distinct seasons; winter, summer, and monsoons. These seasons last from December-February, March-June, and July-November respectively.
The population as per 2001 census was 149589.
