Mizoram: Introduction and History

The state of Mizoram lies to the north-east of India lining the border of Myanmar.

Among the Indian states, Mizoram has the second largest literacy rate.

Mizo” is the official language but 90% of the total populations are well versed with English.

According to the 2001 India census the population of Mizoram was 888,573.

Precisely Mizoram lies in a mountainous region. The climate of Mizoram is pretty cool and easygoing due to the presence of the high mountainous ranges that surround Mizoram. In winters the temperature lies between 11ºC-20ºC. In summers the temperature rises to a maximum of 30ºC.

Mizoram receives an average rainfall of 350 cm.

Majority of people residing in Mizoram are Christians and remaining very few are Buddhist.

More than 70% of the people are still engaged in agriculture. Bamboo is the major export of Mizoram as more than 35% of Mizoram is under the influence of the bamboo forests.

The cultural music of Mizoram is very famous all over the world.

Due to its marvelous beauty and very convenient climate Mizoram has gained a sudden tourist importance.
