Ranthambore National Park is a popular tiger reserve in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan.

The park is situated on the edge of a plateau and is surrounded by the Chambal River to the south and the Banas River to the north.
The park is named after the historic Ranthambore fort which lies in the park. There are numerous lakes in the park and it covers a total area of 392 km.
Although the park is mainly famous for its population of tigers there are several other animals found here such as the chital, leopard, wild pigs, sambar, gaur, nilgai, dhole and more.
The park is also home to a number of reptiles, birds, trees and plants. The park was established in 1955 as a game sanctuary and declared as one of the Project Tiger Reserves in the year 1973.
The Ranthambore fort situated in the park has 3 Hindu temples dedicated to Shiva, Ganesha and Ramlalaji. There are excellent transportation and accommodation facilities provided here for tourists visiting the place as well. |
