Introduction:

The Sundarbans National Park has been declared as a World Heritage Site in 1987.

Attractions and things to do

The Sundarbans National Park is known for the biggest mangrove forests in the world and also rare and endangered species like reptiles, birds, aquatic mammals and tigers.

The park is located at Piyali in West Bengal, particularly famous for the population of Ridley Sea Turtles and Royal Bengal Tigers and this park is so named after the large number of Sundari trees found in this region.

The Sunderbans comprises of an alluvial group of 54 islands in the Bay of Bengal which is the delta region of the Ganges and Brahmaputra

Particularly in April and May, the flora of this park is very attractive as there are yellow flowers of Khalsi, the crabby red flowers of the Kankara and the flaming red leaves of the Genwa.

Apart from 400 tigers one can also view the Rhesus Monkey, the Chital Deer, Crocodiles, Hermit Crabs, Red Fiddler Crabs and reptiles like Water Monitor, Rock Python and King Cobra.
