Attractions and things to do

The distance from Port Blair is almost 90 kilometers. Aberdeen bazaar is the STS bus terminal from where there are regular bus services to this island.

The time required to reach Middle Strait from Port Blair is about 2 hrs and 30 minutes. Ferry services start from Nilambur Jetty in Middle Strait and end on this island. The ferry requires only 15 minutes to cover the distance.

In Baratang, it is possible to view the Mud Volcano. This is at a distance of 4 kilometers from the jetty. There are shared taxi services that enable one to see this volcano.

Seismologists are of the opinion that the eruption of mud at the Baratang volcanic zone in 2004 is a result of the strong shaking following the mainshock of the Sumatra earthquake.
