The Hemis National Park is spread over an area of 600 square kilometers in the Rumbak and Markha valleys.
The average height of this park is 3,000 meters. The best time to visit the Hemis National Park is from May to October.
Around the park, there is rocky terrain and a thin soil cover and so, there is scarce vegetation. In the summer, the snow melts and the grass growth is quick. One can find several U-shaped valleys that have been formed due to the glacial actions in the past.
Some of the fauna located in this park are Tibetan antelope, serow, ibex, kiang or Tibetan wild and the snow leopard. In this park, there are dry forests of fir, birch and juniper.
There are also some scrublands and alpine grasslands. There are many buses that travel from Leh to this park. Jammu-Tawi is the closest railway station. |
