Introduction:

The Indus River is the longest and third largest river in the Indian subcontinent .

Attractions and things to do

The Indus river starts in the Tibetan plateau close to Lake Mansarovar.

After flowing through the Ladakh district in India, it flows southward in Pakistan and merges with the Arabian Sea.

This river has 20 main tributaries. In the Sindh province of Pakistan, there is a seven rivers delta formed by the Indus, Beas, Jhelum, Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and the extinct Saraswati.

It has been found from records that there was a considerable forest cover in the Indus valley and this has thinned with time. The ecology of the Shivalik Hills was affected due to human interference and large deforestation.

As a result, the Indus valley has scarce vegetation. A type of Dolphin, termed as the Blind Indus River Dolphin is seen only in the Indus river or its tributaries.

Palla fish is very famous with the people residing on the banks of this river. The major fishing centers are Kotri, Thatta and Sukkur. It is found that the fish population is quite high.
