Kishtwar National Park is situated about 40 kilometers towards the north-east of Kishtwar town in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. |

To Kishtwar National Park's west is the Marwa river, to its north is the Rinnay river, to its east is the main divide of the Great Himalaya and to the south is the Kibar Nala catchment.
On 4th February 1981, this region was declared to be a national park.
In the months of December and January, this entire region is filled with snow. The rainfall is more than 100 mm per month in the months of March, April, July and August.
This area is known to have the richest fauna in the Himalayas. The species worth mention are ibex, hangul, Himalayan musk deer, leopard, brown bear, bharal, Himalayan tahr, serow, Indian muntjac and wild boar.
The population of brown bear is the highest to be found in the Himalayas. There are also 28 species of birds.
Some pheasants like Koklass and Himalayan monal are also found. |
