This is the north-west side of the Nilgiri Hills in the Nilgiri district. Although, this park was established in 1940, over an area of 60 square kilometers, there were subsequent updations to the present area of 321 square kilometers.
The Mudumalai National Park encompasses three major types of forest – southern tropical thorn, tropical dry deciduous and tropical moist deciduous. Here, one can find the leopard, the tiger, the bonnet macaque, the gray langur, the wild boar, the Indian spotted chevrotain, Indian muntjac, the Chital, the Sambar Deer, the Gaur, the Asian Elephant, the Sloth bear, the Golden jackal, the striped hyena, the Dhole, the Red Giant Flying Squirrel and the Indian Giant Squirrel.
For the tourists, there is a forest rest house as well as guest houses at Theppakkadu, Abhayaranyam, Kargudi and Masinagudi. |
