The Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India. In 1936, the park was established with the name as Hailey National Park. As Jim Corbett, a hunter and naturalist, played an important role in establishing the park, it was later named after him.
This park consists of about 488 disparate species of flora as well as more than 585 species of fauna. It has been recorded that there are 37 species of dragonflies, 7 species of fish, 7 species of amphibians and 33 species of reptiles.
The park has become an ecotourism destination. The rise in the tourist activities has posed grave concern regarding the ecological balance of the park.
If compared to the other protected regions in India, this park has a temperate climate. In winters, the mornings may be foggy. Rainfall is heavy in the monsoon season and light in the dry season. |
