Tezu can be described as one of the census towns and HQ of ‘Lohit district’ within Arunachal Pradesh, India.
The age-old habitants relating to this gorgeous ‘land of valleys and rivers’ are ‘Mishmi’ tribes. The specialty of this tribe is that it still has Queens and a King residing in Tezu’s district HQ. Mishmi tribes are said to have customs and traditions which date back to times of ‘Mahabharata’. It’s, in fact, said that Mahabharata’s Rukmini had been a ‘Mishmi damsel’.
Tezu stands at an elevation of 606 feet.
As per census conducted in the year 2001, Tezu’s population was 15014. Males constituted around 55% of this population. Literacy rate on an average was 68%; i.e. much higher as compared to national average (59.5%). Around 15% had been under the age of 6. It should be noted that Tezu houses Tibetan community as well. Around 2000 of them have been staying in this settlement since the last few years.
