Tourist Guide Jorhat
Jorhat is accompanied by Nagaland towards the south and Brahmaputra River towards the north in the central portion of the Brahmaputra valley.
Jorhat means a couple (Jor) of marts (hat). These two marts were called as Macharhut and Chowkihut and lay on the western and eastern banks of the river Bhogdoi.
From this state, this place has grown to become the best laid town in upper Assam that has broad roads which cut at right angles.
Currently, this is a prosperous cosmopolitan town that has Bengalis, Marwaries, Biharis, Punjabis and also some South Indians.
As per the 2001 census, the population out here was around 1 million.
The hottest months are from March to June when the average temperature is 34 degrees Celsius and the coolest months are from November to February when the average temperature is 27 degrees Celsius.
