Ara is known as Arrah and it is a city and also a municipal corporation in Bhojpur district in Bihar. Ara is the district headquarters of Bhojpur district and is located near the confluence of the Sone and Ganges Rivers. This is around 24 miles from Danapur and somewhat 36 miles from Patna.
As per the 2001 India census, Ara had a population of 203,395. Around 54 percent of males and 45 percent females are constituted. The average literacy rate of the city is 67 percent which is more than the national average of 59.5 percent. There are overall 60 percent of males and 40 percent females who are literate. In the present scenario, there are a lot of conflicts between the Peoples War group and the Ranvir Sena. The Ranvir Sena is represented by the higher caste where the People War Group is represented by the lower caste group.
The climate is moderately extreme and hot weather begins in the middle of March. The months of April and May are also hot. Monsoon is by the third week of June and rains continue till the end of September with intermissions.
