Ara is an old city having many references in mythological stories and Greek geographical works. This city has been a center of attraction for Jainism having many old temples and such heritage places. This city is known for its important Battle of Buxar which took place in 1764 when the Nawab of Bengal, Mir Kasim, along with Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and Shuja- ud- daulla, the Nawab of Avadh was defeated by the East India Company Army. The Governor General at that time was Robert Clive, who was the key event establishing the British colonialisation of India.
These places are worth visiting in Ara where one can get an idea of the war effects, the historic buildings which foretell the historic moments of the city and its people. There is only one GPO which is at the district headquarters in Ara. This city was the center of the underground revolutionaries of Shahabad district. So one can visit this area to see the historic places which took place.
