The population of Muzaffarpur was 3,743,836 according to the 2001 census. According to 'Ramayana', a mythological epic, King Janak ruled Videha. Videha is the traditional name for this region. The origin of Vrijjan Republic marked the beginning of Muzaffarpur history. Muzaffarpur is located at 26.12 degree North and 85.4 degree East. The summer is awfully hot and humid. The temperature may rise above 40 degrees. But the winter season is pleasingly cold.
