Muzaffarpur is known as the "Land of Litchis". The business centers of Muzaffarpur are the Saraiyagunj and Kalyani. These places are thickly populated areas. The small shops over here sell goods and services in an excess amount. The settings are generally colorful and large crowds buzz around all the time. Motijheel is another major shopping area. A small regiment of Territorial Army is present at the Chakkar Maidan. Baba Garib Nath, Raj Rajeswar Devi Kali, Kali Temple, Chaturbhuj-sthan, Raj Darbhanga Temple and Kalibari Temple are some of the ancient temples in Muzaffarpur. There are also worship places of other religious communities like Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Christians etc. Gurudwara is the worship place of the Sikhs, located at Ramna. There is also a Rama Krishna Ashram at the Bela-mithan pura. Badi Masjid is a famous Muslim Worship place at Company Bagh. Muzaffarpur is currently a fast growing city. It showed a phenomenal growth in the last decade.

The Sabarmati Ashram was the dwelling of the great Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. It is situated close to Vadaj.
