The Chhattisgarh is a recent creation, being one of three new states created in India on 1 November 2000. It is formed by combining the eastern districts of the State of Madhya Pradesh. Bade Bacheli is wealthy in its several species of wildlife. The different species found are the tiger, bison, deer, leopard etc. Some other rare and endangered species of animals are also found. The language Chhattisgarhí, belonging to the family of Indo-Aryan languages, is the predominant language in the region. The most mountainous districts of Chhattisgarh are the home of the tribe of the Gondi, who speak a language belonging to the family of Dravidian languages. The southernmost part of the state is in the Deccan Plateau, watered by the river Godavari and its tributary, the river Indravati. Forests cover a significant part of the state, about 40% of the total area. Some of the major cities in the state of Chhattisgarh are Bhilai and the capital, Raipur.
