Chhattisgarh, situated in central India, is enriched with a prosperous cultural heritage and beautiful natural diversity. This state is endowed with an assortment of antique monuments, rare wildlife, palaces, rock paintings, Buddhist sites, delicately carved temples and hill plateaus. By area, Chhattisgarh is the 10th largest state of India, its name being derived from the numerical word thirty six (in Hindi garh means fort and Chattis means thirty-six) princely states in this area. The main language of this region is the Chhattisgarh language which is regarded to be a dialect of Hindi. Dialects of Dravidian languages are also spoken amongst different states. Apart from these languages the other languages spoken are Hindi, Marathi, Oriya and varied tribal languages.
