Diu Fort is conveniently situated on the seashore. The fort was built during the 16th-Century when the Sultan of Gujarat and Portuguese joined hands and forged a strategic alliance for the combined defense.
The fort symbolizes this pact. Being situated on the seashore, it gives magnificent view of the surrounding Arabian Sea and the beaches. Visitors often come here to enjoy the grand view of the sunset.
The fort is enveloped by the sea from three sides and on the fourth side, there is a canal. Inside the fort, there is a massive Light House. Diu Jail is also located nearby.
There are cannons situated on the fort wall, which were created in the army by the Portuguese. Visitors can see through the firing holes. A double moat and numerous iron shells are also on display here.
The fort is illuminated at night, which gives a spellbound view of the structure. Panikotha Fortress is near this fort and can be reached via boat.
