St. Paul’s Church in Diu is dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Immaculate Conception’ and is amongst the rare churches in Diu which is still very much active.
The construction lasted from 1601 to 1610 AD.
The overall architecture of the church seems to resemble the Bom Jesus church in Goa; however, the main features are definitely Gothic in style. The main façade of the church is decorated with shell-like motifs and treated volutes.
The interior of the Church is finely adorned with delicate carvings in Burma teak, making this one of the most elaborate Portuguese churches of India. The wood paneling in the church is a fine example in church craftsmanship.
Many visitors, both Christian and otherwise can always be found in the church. A hospital has recently been established in this ancient church.
