India : Events and Entertainment

India is a melting pot of different cultures and religions, as a result of which it celebrates many festivals in a year. National holidays include Republic Day on 26 January and Independence Day on 15 August. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2 October to commemorate the birth of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi.

Religion is an important aspect of Indian culture and people celebrate their religious festivals in full gusto. Holi involves throwing of colours and water. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in is dedicated to the elephant-headed god, Ganesha. Dusshera (Durga Puja) and the festival of lights, Diwali are also popular festivals celebrated by the entire country.

The massive Kumbh Mela festival is held every 12 years and the gathering of over a million people is awe-inspiring.
