Gandhinagar is the capital of the Indian state of Gujarat.
It lies on the banks of the river Sabarmati. The river dries up in summers (March to June).
The climate is dry throughout the year except in the monsoons. During the monsoon, in the months from June to September, the weather is humid. Winters commence in November and last till end in February.
Gandhinagar is one of the best planned cities in India. There are thirty sectors inside the city and each sector has its own market, community & health centres and schools. It is famous for its educational and research centres.
The city houses 195,891 people according to year 2001 census.
Hindus form a large population of the city. Gujarati and Hindi are the principal language spoken there.
The food is particularly vegetarian with salty and sweet flavours mixed together.
Akshardham Temple is the major tourist attraction of the city.
