Fort Aguada is situated on Sinquerim beach, on the shore of river Mandovi, in Goa, India. It is a well-preserved 17th-Century fort of the Portuguese which overlooks the expanses of the Arabian Sea.

It was built in 1612 as a guard against the Marathas and Dutch. It was also used as a reference-point for the European ships. These ships used to get fresh-water supply from the spring within the fort and hence the fort got its name (Aguada = water).

There is 4-story lighthouse on the fort which was built in 1864 and is amongst the oldest lighthouses of Asia. The fort was used as a prison during the Salazar administration. Presently, there is Fort Aguada Beach Resort on the location of original fort. It is a 5-star hotel owned by the Tata’s.
