Fort Aguada was constructed by the Portuguese in 1612. It is one of the strongest forts in Goa.
In its prime, the fort consisted of 200 cannons, prisons, residential quarters, barracks and two magazines. Currently, the ruins have thick walls, an old lighthouse and the bastion on the hilltop. A new lighthouse has been constructed and can be visited from 4 to 5:30 pm daily.
Bardez has also a continuous stretch of beaches. The prominent beaches are those in Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Candoloim and Sinquerim.
The Vagator beach is a broad and white sandy beach in a fairly undeveloped and relaxed resort area. The Baga beach is close to the Calangute. Even the local people cannot determine the border of these two beaches.
In Baga, there are several restaurants and a very active nightlife. The Anjuna Beach has an abundance of palm trees and the soft white sand in this place is very appealing.
The people of Goa come to Mapusa to shop for spices, preserves, pickles, fruit, vegetables, fish and meat (particularly Goan sausage). The market in Mapusa also comprises of terracotta pottery, jewelry, clothing and household items.
Here, one can see the St Jerome Church, which is also called as the Milagres Church.
