Mapusa can be referred to as a small town located in northern part of Goa, India. Mapusa lies at a distance of 13 Km on the northern side of state capital, i.e. Panaji. It’s also HQ of ‘Bardez taluka’. National Highway number 17 is the way on which this place lies. This causes Trivandrum and Mumbai to get linked with each other.
Mapusa was spelt as ‘Mapuca’ when it was under the rule of Portuguese.
The climate of Mapusa can be described as ‘tropical’; with temperatures which range between 37 degree Celsius (summers) to 21 degree Celsius (winters). It’s elevation on an average is around 15 meters; i.e. 49 feet. As per 2001 census, population of Mapusa was 40122; out of which 52% consisted of males. Literacy rate on an average was 76%; better than national average, i.e. 59.5%. Literacy of males was 80%; and that of females was 73%. Around 11% of total population was found to be under the age of 6.
