Tourist Guide Margao
The name ‘Margao’ has been derived from ‘Mathagram’, meaning a place containing a ‘matha’.
Nestled on River Sal, Margao is one of the age-old recorded towns all over Goa. It’s famous with regards to big mansions of Portuguese style which go on to dot the landscape. The suburbs which are included in Margao are Davorlim, Comba, Borda, Gogol, Fatorda, and Aquem.
‘Margao Railway Station’ is the most important and largest one as it’s the railway junction which lies at intersection of South Western railway and Konkan Railway. It’s also gateway to ‘South Goa’.
As per 2001 census, population of Goa was 78393; out of which 51%25 consisted of males. Literacy rate is 76%25, i.e. better than national average.
