One can reach Chorao Islands through a ferry ride across from the Ribandar village, five kilometers from Panaji. The west half of the island is presently a reserved area, known as Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Full of dense mangrove swamps, the place can be best seen through a canoe. Home to many birds, animals and muggers, this inhabitant is worth seeing. Whilst on this island, one can visit the village, having a small collection of thatch and mud houses along with some exquisite Portuguese villas.
