The Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, spread over an area of 240 square kilometers, is the biggest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. Since 1969, this is a designated wildlife reserve and was earlier called as the Mollem Game Sanctuary.

The core region of this sanctuary was declared as a national park in 1978 and called as the Mollem National Park. This is spread over an area of 107 square kilometers.

Many animal species like Sambar, Gaur, Spotted Deer, Leopards, Panther, Mouse Deer, Slender Toris, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Jungle Cats, Slender toris and Malayan giant squirrels are found here.

Amongst the birds, Paradise fly catchers, the Malabar Pied Hornbills, the Indian Black Woodpeckers, Drongos and Fairy Blue Birds are found.

The important species of flora are Dalbergia, Xylia, Lagerstromia and Terminalia.

This sanctuary has lush green vegetation. To see the wildlife of this place, the Devil’s Canyon, which is the basalt rock formation, is an ideal point. At the periphery of this sanctuary, one can see the Dudhsagar waterfalls.

Here the water rushes down from a height of 200 meters and this is an incredible scene.
