Fontainhas is an old Portuguese district that is situated to the west of the Ourem River.
Here, the houses are tiled with terra cotta, have neoclassical facades and have maintained the colored exteriors using colors like green, blue, ochre and yellow.
These paints are used for the houses as the Portuguese had decided that only churches could be painted in white.
The Chapel of St. Sebastian is whitewashed. In Fountainhas, one can find small overhanging balconies, shuttered windows, old buildings and narrow winding streets.
These provide an atmosphere of the Portuguese era. One of the oldest bakeries in Goa called Confeitaria 31 de Janueiro is situated here.
During tea time, one should step in to try the Bolinas, Doce, Bebinca and Pinagre.
