Tourist Guide Vasco da Gama
The name ‘Vasco da Gama’ has been derived from a ‘Portuguese explorer’, i.e. Vasco da Gama’. This city has the largest population in Goa. It’s also the HQ of Mormugao taluka.
Vasco da Gama lies on Mormugao peninsula’s western tip; at Zuari River’s mouth; at a distance of around 30 Km from Panaji, i.e. capital city; and at a distance of around 5 Km from Dabolim Airport.
The year 1543 witnessed the discovery of Vasco da Gama. Furthermore, it remained in the hands of Portuguese till the year 1961; when annexure of Goa with India happened.
Manganese ore which is mined within interior regions has been brought to ‘Marmugoa’ through barges which navigate rivers Zuari and Mandovi. Thereafter, they get collected in Mormugao port (Vasco’s harbor) for being loaded on to ships by making use of transshippers.
