Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad is situated in the central part of the old city. It was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1423 and is made of yellow-sandstone.

It epitomizes the magnificent blend of Islamic and Hindu arts and is often described as the most beautiful mosques of India. It contains 260 pillars that support fifteen domes of different heights.

The entrance of the mosque is located on the Eastern side which also contains a Roja, or a mausoleum to the Sultan. Graves of three great rulers of Gujarat lie inside this structure.

At the center of the mosque, there is a marble-paved courtyard containing a central water-pool. At the north side of the mosque, relics of Mohammad are stored in a cupboard.

It also includes the Koran written on sandal and deerskin. Even today, thousands of Muslims offer their prayers at the mosque. Variety of shops can be found in the surroundings.
