Kullu is situated on the banks of the river Beas almost 10 kilometers towards the north of the airport at Bhuntar.
Towards the east of Kullu there is a broad mountainous ridge that has the village temples of Pueed, Mount nag and Bijli Mahadev. Towards the south of Kullu are the towns of Mandi, Out and Bhuntar.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Kullu was 18,306.
The Kullu valley is also called as ‘Valley of Gods’ and is reputed for the festival of Dussehra that lasts seven days while denoting the victory of Lord Rama over the evil king Ravana.
Generally, Kullu enjoys a pleasant climate and the temperature varies from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. During winter (December to February), the temperature falls to below zero and there is heavy snowfall.
