McLeod Ganj is an urban suburb of the city of Dharamsala in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh in India. At some places McLeod Ganj is often referred to as ‘Upper Dharamsala’. This place is considered as a hill- station and is often full with tourists in the summers. Its altitude is well above the sea, say 2,082 meters. It is situated between Kangra and Nagrota. It is also close to Pathankot, a well known city in this region. The population here is average. Most of the people are a combination of Hindus and Muslims. However there are large evidences of Tibetan refugees who have come to settle at this place. This feature has also earned this city the name of ‘Little Lhasa’. Even the Tibetan government in exile is operated from here. The city was named after David Mcleod, a former governor in the Punjab administration. This place also has more value because ‘Tenzin Gyatso’, the 14th Dalai Lama was offered refuge in this place.
