Jakhu Temple of Shimla is situated on the top of Jakhu Hills, which is about two-km from Shimla. Being at the height of 8000 ft, it is the highest peak of the hills.
The temple is dedicated to Hanuman, the monkey-god from Hindu mythology. He is considered to be the greatest of the devotees of Lord Rama. Many locals believe the temple to exist since the time of the Ramayana.
Being at such a great height, this temple provides great opportunity for trekkers and mountaineers. There is a thick forest that surrounds the temple and the zigzag paths leading to the temple provide exciting opportunities for a peaceful walk amongst the woods.
The temple offers fascinating views of the surrounding snow-peaked mountains and of the town below. Watching the sun-rise from this location is an especially elevating moment. Monkeys sit and make cheerful noises around the temple premises and often people can be seen feeding them.
