Hawa Mahal
Rating:
The Hawa Mahal (also known as the Palace of Winds) can be regarded as one of the best monuments and attractions in Jaipur.

It is located in the midst of the active Johari Bazaar, close to the Badi Chaupad or the Big Square.

The visiting hours are from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Entrance is free on Mondays and the monument is closed on Friday. There are charges for photography and video.

This five storey structure is constructed from red sandstone. The Hawa Mahal is different from other Rajput monuments like temples, palaces and forts.

It is very delicate and in spite of the huge height and length, there is a feeling that this airy and light structure might get blown away due to the wind.

The Hawa Mahal has a huge tapering structure and there are several arches, spires and an unbelievable 953 latticed casements and small windows. If this structure is seen from a distance, one gets an impression that there would be huge and spacious rooms inside.

However, the top three storeys are just a room deep. The lower storeys are connected to courtyards and rooms.
