Jaisalmer is a town located in the state of Rajasthan in India. It is also renowned by the name of “The Golden City”, due to the yellow sand present in the city.
The town is mainly situated in the midst of Thar Desert.
There are many old Jain temples found in the town of Jaisalmer. Fine architecture can be clearly noticed on the walls of these temples.
According to 2001 India census Jaisalmer inhabited a population of about 58,286. The city shows an elevation of 225 m above sea level.
The local dancers and musicians play a very important role in the cultural heritage of Jaisalmer and are also exported worldwide as part of occupation. The city is also famous for the wide range of production of leather bags which is made from wild camel hide.
