The Amarnath cave temple is a sacred place religiously believed and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the most important religious shrines of India.
In this cave, the ice Shiva linga (symbol of Lord Shiva) can be seen by the pilgrims only from May to August. The distance of Amarnath via Pahalgam is 363 kilometers and via Baltal is 414 kilometers.
This area is under control of the Indian Army and their permission is essential to visit this area. The journey from Pahalgam or Baltal is done on horseback or by trekking.
The Vaishno Devi shrine is situated in the town of Katra. This holy cave shrine, of the mother goddess Vaishno Devi, is at a height of 1700 meters and 48 kilometers from Jammu.
The cave is just 1.5 meters high and 30 meters long. Towards the end of the cave, three forms of the mother goddess can be seen. They are Mahasarasvati, Mahalakshmi and Mahakali. Pilgrims can reach this shrine by walking through ice-cold waters.
The Nandini wildlife sanctuary has an area of 34 square kilometers. The major species that are found here are grey langur, bharal, rhesus monkey, wild boar and leopard. Some other species are chakor, chir pheasants, red jungle fowl, peafowl, blue rock pigeon and the Indian mynah.
The Mansar lake is at a distance of 62 kilometers from Jammu. This beautiful lake is bordered by hills covered with forests.
The lake is one mile long and half a mile broad. Towards the east of the lake, there is a shrine of Sheshnag. Sheshnag is a mythological snake believed to be having six heads.
