Katra is situated at a distance of 42 kilometers from the city of Jammu in the district of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.
The city is at the foot of the Trikuta Mountains on which the holy temple of Vaishno Devi exists. So, the town of Katra is also referred to as Katra Vaishno Devi.
The population of this place was 7589 as per the 2001 census.
The climate of Katra is mild. In summer the temperature ranges from 20 to 40 degrees Celsius and in winter from 3 to 15 degrees Celsius.
The tourism industry flourishes as it is pilgrimage. These pilgrims come from different sections of the society but they are equally devoted towards Goddess Vaishno Devi.
