Ladakh is a plateau region that has the highest altitude in India (most of it being more than 3000 meters).
Historic Ladakh is made up of several disparate areas like the main Indus valley, Nubra & Zanskar valley, Aksai Chin and Suru and Kargil regions.
In Ladakh, there is sunshine for more than 300 days in a year.
During summer the temperature is rarely above 27 degrees Celsius however during winter it may drop to -20 degrees Celsius and consequently this region gets some snow while there is little rain (60 mm per year).
The population in Ladakh is majorly Buddhist except for Suru and Kargil valley which has a Shia Muslim population.
