Shopping in Srinagar

Srinagar is a shopper’s paradise for those who are fond of handicrafts. The region is traditionally rich in handicrafts and has a huge variety available from its hand woven silk scarves and rich shawls, to intricately woven Kashmiri carpets and floor mats of various designs and shapes.

The embroidery of the region has earned global fame and reputation. One can also purchase metal crafts, cane and bamboo work, woolen garments, brass and silverware and papier mâché while shopping here.

The shopping areas in Srinagar include Polo View, Hari Market, Vir Marg, Raghunath Bazaar, Badshah Chowk and Lal Chowk. One can find authentic and traditional articles at the Government emporia for reasonable rates.

However, the rates at the cottage industries can be quite high and one can find the same article in the city at lower rates. Always remember to bargain as normally tourists are always charged higher than usual.
