The airport of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at Bangalore is called as the HAL Bangalore International Airport or HAL Airport or Hindustan Airport which is used for testing and developing aircraft for the Indian Armed Forces, while in the past, this airport was used as a domestic and international airport.
However, now these services are provided by the new Bengaluru International Airport from 24th May 2008.
The HAL airport was constructed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in 1964. The intention was to use it for defense reasons. However, in the 1980s, domestic commercial flights also started to use this airport.
From 1997 onwards, international destinations were also served by this airport.
The capacity of this airport was to handle 3.6 million passengers per year.
