Gulbarga is a town in the state of Karnataka. It is also called as Kalburgi.
The town is situated 613 kilometers to the north of Bangalore.
From late February to mid June, there is summer. From late June to late September, there is the rainy season. From October to mid January is the winter.
The population of Gulbarga was 4,27,929 as per the census of 2001.
In the 6th century, the Rashtrakutas followed by the Chalukyas reigned this region. Further, the control passed on to the Kalachuri till the 12th century. From the 13th century, the Yadavas and the Hoysalas governed this place.
The Kayatiya dynasty ruled up to 1321 and thereafter the control passed to the Muslim sultanate of Delhi. Due to the revolt of the Muslim officers, the Bahmani sultanate was established in 1347.
Later, Gulbarga was partially under Bijapur and partially under Bidar. In the 17th century, Aurangzeb took control of Gulbarga. In 1948, the state of Hyderabad was attached to the newly independent Indian union.
