The whole temple complex is situated on a platform and mainly consists of two vimanas, one for Hoysaleswara, the king and another one for Shantaleswara, the queen.
There are large Mandapas in front of these two structures and they are connected with a simple linga situated in between. The temple sees 4 porches for entry, only one of which is used for visitors.
All entrances have miniature shrines, including one for Nandi, the bull. There is one sanctuary dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. The interiors of the temple are quite simple with lathe turned pillars, however 4 pillars in-front of each shrine are the most ornate ones.
The temple is famous for its number of wall-sculptures (240 in particular), mainly that of Ganesha. One more interesting structure in the temple is Garuda Stambha (pillar), which depicts the life-events of Garuda’s, who were the elite bodyguards in the service of the king and the queen.
