Srirangapatna is located on the Bangalore-Mysore highway and is an island fortress which was the capital of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. Here there is a fort from where Tipu charged at the British soldiers but was betrayed by his own men.
In the interiors of the fort there exists a mosque as well as Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. About 4 kilometers from Srirangapatna is the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary which is a home to many exotic species of birds.
It has been observed that every year some birds from Siberia also come here. Gumbaz is the place where the mortal remains of Hyder Ali, his wife and Tipu Sultan are laid to rest.
This monument has beautiful ebony doors inlaid with ivory and the walls are covered by Tiger stripes which were Tipu’s favorite. The Daria Daulat Bagh is a summer palace which was one of the favorite retreats of Tipu Sultan.
This was constructed in 1784 out of teak in an Indo-Saracenic style and has beautiful and ornate frescoes.
