The Mysore Zoo, known locally as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens is amongst the most popular and oldest zoos of Southern India, established in 1982. It is situated at about three-km from the city-bus stand and at two-km from Mysore Palace.
Since its inception, it has seen number of renovations and has undergone many expansion plans. The zoo is situated on the outskirts of Mysore and is home to a myriad of wild-species.
The park also contains a beautiful bandstand and has an artificial lake on its ground, which is used as a mini bird-sanctuary. Boating facilities are also present here. Chamundi Hills form the backdrop for the park.
The park also breeds numerous exotic animal species like Eland Antelope, Emus, Barberry sheep, Giraffe and Kangaroos, which are then distributed to several zoos both in India and abroad. The zoo is open on all days except Tuesday
